Private Dwellings
Mild Steel, Powder Coated
2019
Private Dwellings is the Faris Nakamura's continued investigation on the notion of public spaces and refuge. The sculpture possesses familiar visual cues but at the same time, there is a sense of unfamiliarity through its unique construction of space. Within these spaces, traces of its occupants and their activities are obscured and time is indistinguishable. These sculptures are often in monochrome and constructed in a minimalistic fashion with spaces concealed, in an attempt to mislead unwanted attention, invoking a sense of melancholy.
This public sculpture was presented outside Richard Koh Fine Art at Blk 47, Malan Road, #01-26, Gillman Barracks.
