Between Apartments
Wood, Acrylic Plastic, Light
2014
Between Apartments is based on the many apartments that I once lived in and my feelings towards them.
The apartments are simplified and made to appear sterile, as the presence of nostalgia and emotional attachment no longer exist. Hence, reducing them to spaces that simply consist of vertical and horizontal planes which are fragmented.
These spatial constructions can only be seen through a slit wedged between columnar white structures which resemble HDB flats. Viewers are put in a position of an outsider, peering into a personal and private space like a voyeur.
Light is used to shape and demarcate the area of the spatial constructions, illuminating the absence of human presence and emotions and appearing as though these spaces are under scrutiny.
