Verdant Cascades
Emulsion on Treated Wood
2024
Verdant Cascades is a sculptural exploration of fluidity, force, and the quiet resilience found in nature’s rhythm. Cloaked in deep purple, the work takes visual cues from the tumultuous collision of waves and the cascading flow of waterfalls found in Southeast Asia.
Here, movement is translated into layered curves and tensioned bends, evoking the sensation of water crashing against rock or sweeping down forest cliffs. While the colour purple may not be immediately associated with water, it conjures an emotional depth. A meditative stillness beneath the surface turbulence. The work speaks to the push and pull of energy, sculpted yet untamed, suspended yet always in motion.
Created far from home, Verdant Cascades is also an emotional register of presence and absence, memory and imagination, a homage to the Southeast Asian sublime.
