Emerald Canopies

Emulsion on Treated Wood

2024

Emerald Canopies is a sculptural meditation on memory, place, and belonging. Rooted in the artist’s architectural language, the work unfolds through a series of hand-shaped planes and softened curves that extend from a vertical central stem. These branching forms evoke the silhouette of a palm tree, an echo of foliage that once framed the artist’s everyday horizon, quietly anchoring their sense of home.

The sculpture rises with a restrained upward momentum. Its bends and overhang suggest a gentle sway, as though responding to the presence of wind. While the geometry remains deliberate and architectural, the softened transitions allow the form to breathe, hovering between built structure and organic growth. Each component appears to support and lean into another, creating a rhythm of balance and suspension.
